Update: so my genius co-worker Jasmine came up with a perfect idea on how to have work samples in my portfolio. She spent the day taking a few pictures of me in action!
Overall, I adore my co-workers and job. The office has given me so much responsibility, and I already assist the doctors not only with cleaning, but also fillings and extractions. It's an honour to be trusted with that responsibility since Rhea [the other girl from school] and I are the company's first interns. Today, my supervisor already set that our competence and enthusism has already set the standard that they wish to host more interns in the future.
It's kind of cool to have set the bar pretty high, and I'm really proud of myself. My supervisor plans to tell the people that run my internship to keep up the program with their practice. Also, she invited me to a big cricket game on Wednesday at the Sydney Olympic Park, which will be pretty cool.
It's so great to look forward to work in addition to me free time here. I meet so many interesting people. My co-workers and I were fast friends, and Ialready have a reputation of being reliable and that I can handle most any task. Luckily, I think it's my prior experience and confidence that definitely helps with this, but I'm still excited. I know Rhea hasn't yet assisted a dentist yet though, and my lucky timing has let me spend two days with two different doctors who are willing to let me assist them. Each day has been a blast, and the office just throws me right in to see if I'll sink or swim. I was a bit surprised the first few times I've been asked to assist since I hadn't been there long, but I guess my willingness and trustworthiness shine through.
The dentists also make sure I experience a variety of procedures since they see my enthusism. Today I helped with a crown prep, and this week I'll watch/help with a bridge, implants, and an in-depth explanation of the root canal procedure. I know it sounds like pulling teeth [sorry for the lame joke], but I swear, it's definitely fun.
