A Day About Town

Today I woke up at 6:20 am... dumb jet lag. But I went to bed at 10, so I had a well-rested night. Today we went to North Sydney to see my internship campus where I have class once a week and can go anytime for free internet. The best part? It is a half a block from where I work! Everyone else has internships scattered all over the city and have to haul all the way over here, but I'm a 2 minute walk to the door. After looking at the campus, I walked around and exchanged some currency. Right after this post I'll be going to explore the two main beaches of Sydney with the group. I can tell you that in Australia, you get burned even on overcast days. I am loaded up with 30 SPF before I walk out the door.

So far, I went grocery shopping and learned that in Australia, the tax is built right into the prices. This goes for anything you buy, too. But having a dollar coin sucks. I have amassed incredible amounts of heavy change. :/ I love the laid back attitude everyone has here. I swear every Australian I talk to says goodbye with "No worries". And that describes the attitude of the people here. I even have free time which I haven't had in years!!! In fact, that's kind of weird not having any pressing deadlines or things to do. I have time to sit down and read and not worry about being on the internet fifty hours a day, and I'm taking advantage of that. I can write letters or talk to friends or walk into a bar and talk to anybody because the Australians are so friendly. Even the people I'm with are cool, and I've made quite a few new friends.

Well, I'm off to the beach and harbour right now for a bus tour. I'll stop by the Opera House and Bondi Beach. Tomorrow I'll go to the Blue Mountains. I'll post pictures soon!

Love you all and I wish you Americans some true Australian wisdome: no worries,
Stephanie
