Abroad Down Under

Hello lovely folks! The last few days have been a bit busy here. I began work on Wednesday. Right away, everyone is super friendly and interesting. I already adore every person in my office. That day, they began to teach me their sterilization procedures. Of course there was an ultra sonic and and autoclave, but they also use a dishwasher. It's pretty standard, but the crazy part is that they have EIGHT rooms to prepare constantly. It gets super busy. But it is cool that on top of a lunch break, I get a tea break as well. I love this country. But regardless, I have ten hour days, which make me feel flat out. (Flat out means tired and busy here lol).

The next day, I did some assisting and interacting with patients. I worked along with Angelia, one of the hygienists, for the morning. I prepared the room and helped her with suction. After lunch, I watched Dr. Obaid perform a straightforward root canal. Soon after that, his nurse (which we call dental assistants in the States) had to leave, so I was helping him!!! They threw me right in without any warning! Luckily, I have helped before, so I was handing him instruments, performing the low and high suction, and socializing with Dr. Jack and the patient. It was nuts since the other girl who works with me wasn't asked to help Dr. Obaid, but I was. It was super cool, and I loved the whole day.

But Friday was the best because I woke up an spent the day at the BEACH! I went to Coogee Beach with my roommates, and we all mangaed to get burned in two hours even when we were wearing SPF 30. It was ridiculous, but at least I'll be tan. I've been taking ibuprofen to compensate for my burn, but I can't believe how red I was even with sunscreen. But I know everyone will be jealous because it is just gorgeous here.

This Saturday it's a bit rainy, but I need a sun break. I tried to go exchange money and mail something through the Post, but they were both closed for the weekend. Boo. So now I have no cash on me and I can't mail anything, which sucks. Since I have no cash, I can't go buy myself souvenirs from Paddy's Market. Oh well. I still have my credit and debit card, even though my other debit card (which I specifically got for this trip) has not yet come in. I may just have to withdraw some cash from a regular ATM with my normal debit card. Such is life though.

Tonight, after I go work out/swim (swimming has been my cardio, since my hotel has an amazing pool area), I go to Sydney fest!!! I get to see Los Lobos for free, and that'll be a blast. Sydney fest goes all month long and it has dancers, musicians, and artwork. I'm pretty psyched, so until next time, I love you all!
